Sri Meenakshi Amman

The Temple of Sri Meenakshi Amman in Madurai is magnificent.  The staggering array of gods, goddesses, demons and heroes is dizzying.
The intensity of the heat paired with the intensity of the imagery made me a little light headed.  Reluctantly I gave up my flip flops to enter the temple and I made a quick dash to a mat that leads to the West Entrance.
Unfortunately, photography is not permitted inside.  However, I can still quite clearly conjure up the magnificent ceiling as you enter.  A uniform line of vibrant, colourful, organic mandalas.
Many many devotees are here paying respect to their chosen Gods, of which there are a dizzying number. Lighting candles, decorating foreheads, meditating.  I watch as devotees eat, prey and leave.
Triple breasted, fish eyed Godesses and multiple armed Gods begin to creep into my psyche.  India once again begins playing with this little head of mine...and that head of mine and that other head of mine.
I collect my flip flops and am pleased to discover that I only have two feet.
